It’s been a couple years since I did a trend-watch. Honestly, I’ve just been going with whatever Gelish tells me is cool. But it doesn’t hurt to take a look at what’s in for the season. So I’ve scoured the available info for some good at-home and salon manicure and nail art ideas for Spring 2019.
Harper’s Bazaar says metallic nails are trendy for this season, and this is totallydo-able in the salon or at home. Start out with a metallic or glitter polish, and add rhinestones – as many as you want! Glamour suggests rhinestone outlines. I suggest Swarovski – here’s a link to the ones I use – they’re really pretty on the nail.PopSugar concurs, adding glitter nails as an upcoming trend that you can do at home. (Aren’t glitter nails always in??) I can’t think of a better glitter polish right now than Diamonds are My BFF from Gelish (and it is available in their dip powder, if you prefer acrylic).
Holographic nails, according to PopSugar, are also still in. It seems like this trend has been growing in popularity for a few years now, and there are plenty of holographic polishes to work with. There are some really pricey brands out there, but if you’re a nail pro and can get your hands on the Morgan Taylor Platinum collection, I’ve heard they’re good! (Let me know in the comments if you’ve tried them.)
Marie Claire has a list of trendy polish colors for this spring, including lilac, yellow, lavender, pale blue, coral, salmon, neutral white and beige. Fortunately Gelish was on top of these trends for us, and included a pale blue, Wrapped in Satin, and a beige, She’s a Natural, in their winter 2018 collection. Start with those, then keep an eye out for the Spring 2019 Gelish collection, called The Color of Petals, for beautiful lilac and coral polishes… along with plenty of neutrals.
It’s official – Gelish is trying to bankrupt me. Look at all these fabulous new colors that I must have! The winter 2018 collection was teased in the just-released October 2018 edition of Nails Magazine, and it’s called Forever Fabulous Marilyn Monroe™.
This upcoming collection has 12 colors that Gelish says “embody the spirit of all that is Marilyn Monroe. With classic shades reminiscent of her Old Hollywood beauty and exciting, vibrant tones that represent her iconic nature this color range is sure to leave a lasting impression just like Marilyn herself.”
The colors include:
Batting My Lashes – deep mahogany crème
Wish Upon a Starlet – red shimmer
I Prefer Millionaires – copper plum pearl
Ice or No Dice – gold glitter
A Kiss from Marilyn – bright red crème
She’s a Natural – soft nude crème
The Camera Loves Me – burgundy crème
Blue-Eyed Beauty – baby blue crème
Some Like It Red – bright red glitter
Diamonds Are My BFF – fine silver glitter
Hollywood’s Sweetheart – rosy pink crème
Wrapped In Satin – snowy blue shimmer
One thing I love about Gelish’s collections is how well-themed the polish colors in the collections are. The colors are carefully selected to complement each other, and this collection seems to be no exception. While there are some beautiful winter reds here, we also have some neutrals and mauves for your most conservative clients. Then there are some fun colors and bling polishes that we’ve come to know and love from Gelish. Actually, those bright and unique polishes are the ones that usually get me the most attention! And who doesn’t love a good glitter polish to ring in the holiday season??
Think of the nail art we can create with these as our canvases!
Since this is the winter/holiday, I expect it won’t be on shelves until early November. Looks like it should be available at your local CosmoProf or through authorized re-sellers online.
