These are some gorgeous, vibrant summer colors – all ready to party (or brunch or BBQ or whatever)!

As you can see, I went with the Gelish Mini versions this time, since I’m no longer in the salon.  I know the bottles look small, but I truly believe these are a great option for home users.

The only color I couldn’t find at my local Sally Beauty was Glow Like a Star, so I picked that up at CosmoProf.  I really wish I could have found the smaller bottle.  Buying these at my local Sally Beauty has become hit or miss lately. In case yours is the same way, I’ve included links for online options. This is how I should’ve bought them! It would have been easier and faster, honestly.

Gelish Summer 2019 Collection Just Announced

Gelish and Morgan Taylor are once again collaborating with a movie studio, this time for Rocketman, “the story of Elton John’s rise to fame”.

This collection features 6 shades and a glitter overlay. It should be available May 1st, and the movie releases to theaters on May 31.

I have to be honest… this is the first time I’m not super excited about a new Gelish collection.  The colors seem pretty, with a couple unique shades. But I’m not a huge Elton John fan, or a fan of anything 80’s really.  We’ll see if these end up in my collection or not!  Maybe I’ll just get some Gelish minis of these…

Gelish The Color of Petals live swatches

My swatch video for the new Gelish spring 2019 collection The Color of Petals – released today – is up on the Smoke & Mirrors YouTube channel. If you like seeing real-time swatches before you purchase a color, be sure reference this video.

Spoiler alert: These are all gorgeous neutral polishes that would be great to add to your collection. Only one of them is a shimmer, and the other five are cremes. They’re perfect for work, spring weddings, dances, picnics, first dates, and everything in between.

You really can’t go wrong with a good neutral polish, and several of these fit the bill.  They’d be great for someone looking for a few solid muted colors, to keep on hand during the whole year.

I also received my order very quickly – about 5 days, which is awesome for free shipping.  These cost less than $5 for 50, so you’re looking at 10 cents each.The swatch sticks that I reference in the video are from natural color swatch sticks (available from eBay). I’ve received some questions lately about them, and promised I’d post the link. There’s no prep needed with these, if you don’t want to… I used to buff them and use base coat, but found that it’s not necessary. Now I just go straight away to the first color coat.

Gelish Spring 2019 Collection Sneak Peek!

The latest edition of Nail Magazine has just come out, and it includes a brochure with a sneak peek of the Gelish Spring 2019 collection, called The Color of Petals. This collection includes some lovely pastels and nudes, as well as a dusty coral and purple.

Spring collections are usually released in early February March, so we have a few weeks to plan out which colors to buy. Which will you add to your salon offerings?

Everyday Nail Art #2: Magnetic Nail Art

The magnetic polish trend is a few years old but seems to have made a revival recently, since the “cat eye” look became popular. Here’s my take on it for fall! I used Gelish Magneto Electric Metal Lover on the middle and ring fingers, with Wanna Share a Tent? from the Fall 2018 African Safari collection on the others.

As you can see, I used the starburst magnet, from Gelish. These magnets are hard to find for sale now, since they were released so many years ago, but you can use another brand of magnets

(here’s the one used for a NailPro Magazine demo last year) or magnetic polish to achieve the same look. I’ve even seen nail artists use the side of a normal round or rectangular magnets to create the cat eye look.

My box with the new Holiday Gelish (and Morgan Taylor) collection arrived a few days early, and I’ve posted a video of the unboxing. My kit is salon-ready and came with a display, swatches, and all twelve colors.

Preview the new Gelish Winter/Holiday collection for 2018

It’s official – Gelish is trying to bankrupt me. Look at all these fabulous new colors that I must have! The winter 2018 collection was teased in the just-released October 2018 edition of Nails Magazine, and it’s called Forever Fabulous Marilyn Monroe™.

This upcoming collection has 12 colors that Gelish says “embody the spirit of all that is Marilyn Monroe. With classic shades reminiscent of her Old Hollywood beauty and exciting, vibrant tones that represent her iconic nature this color range is sure to leave a lasting impression just like Marilyn herself.”

The colors include:

One thing I love about Gelish’s collections is how well-themed the polish colors in the collections are. The colors are carefully selected to complement each other, and this collection seems to be no exception.  While there are some beautiful winter reds here, we also have some neutrals and mauves for your most conservative clients.  Then there are some fun colors and bling polishes that we’ve come to know and love from Gelish.  Actually, those bright and unique polishes are the ones that usually get me the most attention! And who doesn’t love a good glitter polish to ring in the holiday season??

Think of the nail art we can create with these as our canvases!

Since this is the winter/holiday, I expect it won’t be on shelves until early November.  Looks like it should be available at your local CosmoProf or through authorized re-sellers online.

Gelish African Safari Swatches

The Fall 2018 African Safari collection, which Gelish describes as “Inspired by the sweeping landscape of an African safari and the vibrant graphic prints from African culture”, is available now. “Brilliant pearls of sapphire, pewter and garnet complement saturated crèmes. The entire collection gives you the feeling that anything can happen under the skies of the Serengeti. Feed your exploration appetite with these untamed 6 hues.” Okay, the last part of that description is a bit dramatic but it does fit the darker colors. The full collections is:

• Are You Lion To Me? – pewter shimmer
• Neutral By Nature – fired earth creme
• No Cell? Oh Well! – deep shimmering sapphire blue
• No Sudden Mauves – dark rose mauve with shimmer
• Off The Grid – dark burgundy hazelnut creme
• Wanna Share A Tent? – fully-saturated carmine red shimmer

Truth be told, it always takes me time to warm up to fall collections – I love the bright colors of the spring and summer polishes and the full-bodied, bold colors that typically come with the winter or holiday collections, so fall colors are kinda “meh” for me at first.  This collection was no exception, but once I got my hands on it I started to feel excited for fall!
