Update on the Gelish® Winter 2020 Collection

In my previous post I noted that Hand and Nail Harmony (HNH) had created 12 winter 2020 colors, assuming that all of them would be available as Gelish gel polish. However, I’ve received emails from distributors that seem to indicate only six of those 12 colors will be available as gel polish. Here are the colors available as Gelish (in full size and mini):

Image from Nail Tech Supply
  • Be My Sugarplum – plum shade
  • Bare & Toasty – nude beige creme
  • Don’t Snow-Flake On Me – pale lilac metallic with chunky glitter
  • Fa-La-Love That Color! – dark gray creme, almost black
  • Stilettos In The Snow –  ruby red creme
  • Liquid Frost – silver metallic with chunky glitter

It appears that the other six colors will be manufactured as Morgan Taylor Lacquer only, at least in the U.S. While this is disappointing, it is likely a business decision. The cosmetics and beauty industry as been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, as many salons are operating at a limited capacity and consumers are spending less on non-essentials like cosmetics. For a large manufacturer like HNH it may not be profitable or even possible to manufacture all 12 colors. It’s a shame, but I am grateful for what we are getting, even with the distribution issues, and look forward to better in 2021. Until then, continue supporting the brands you love when you can!

Looing forward to winter holidays 2020

As the pandemic stretches on, we all occasionally need some good news and events to get excited about. For me, that is the change in season and the new nail colors that come with it! So I was happy to see some news in the last couple days about the upcoming Gelish collection for Winter/Holiday 2020, called Shake up the Magic!

The Shake Up The Magic! collection of 12 new shades is inspired by the magic and nostalgia of the festive season, including glittering snow globes. Danny Haile, CEO and Founder of Gelish Soak-Off Gel Polish, says, “The Shake Up The Magic! collection takes us back to the magic that comes with the holiday winter season that we all remember as a child. We wanted to create shades that were eye catching to get you through all the exciting  events that come with the holidays, but also versatile enough to take you through the wintertime. This collection is sure to add a little holiday cheer to your nails.”

It’s still early, so not much information is available on this collection. I was able to find good information at BeautyandHairdressing.co.uk (collections are typically released earlier in the UK than in the US) and the Cosmoprof website. This collection appears to have 12 colors, including some darker shades, nudes, shimmers and a a couple glitter toppers. So far I have only seen the full size and mini Gelish collections for sale with 6 of these 12 colors, so we might have to wait a little longer to find out if all 12 will be available for purchase in the Gelish gel polish.

Due to a temporary health condition I’ve not been doing my own nails lately, and haven’t had a client in a very long time due to the pandemic. But none of this has dampened my enthusiasm for all things nails and my excitement at seeing new collections being released. What about you? Have you been using more or less nail products in the last few months?

Preview the new Gelish Winter/Holiday collection for 2018

It’s official – Gelish is trying to bankrupt me. Look at all these fabulous new colors that I must have! The winter 2018 collection was teased in the just-released October 2018 edition of Nails Magazine, and it’s called Forever Fabulous Marilyn Monroe™.

All colors

This upcoming collection has 12 colors that Gelish says “embody the spirit of all that is Marilyn Monroe. With classic shades reminiscent of her Old Hollywood beauty and exciting, vibrant tones that represent her iconic nature this color range is sure to leave a lasting impression just like Marilyn herself.”

The colors include:

  • Batting My Lashes – deep mahogany crème
  • Wish Upon a Starlet – red shimmer
  • I Prefer Millionaires – copper plum pearl
  • Ice or No Dice – gold glitter
  • A Kiss from Marilyn – bright red crème
  • She’s a Natural – soft nude crème
  • The Camera Loves Me – burgundy crème
  • Blue-Eyed Beauty – baby blue crème
  • Some Like It Red – bright red glitter
  • Diamonds Are My BFF – fine silver glitter
  • Hollywood’s Sweetheart – rosy pink crème
  • Wrapped In Satin – snowy blue shimmer

One thing I love about Gelish’s collections is how well-themed the polish colors in the collections are. The colors are carefully selected to complement each other, and this collection seems to be no exception.  While there are some beautiful winter reds here, we also have some neutrals and mauves for your most conservative clients.  Then there are some fun colors and bling polishes that we’ve come to know and love from Gelish.  Actually, those bright and unique polishes are the ones that usually get me the most attention! And who doesn’t love a good glitter polish to ring in the holiday season??

Think of the nail art we can create with these as our canvases!

Since this is the winter/holiday, I expect it won’t be on shelves until early November.  Looks like it should be available at your local CosmoProf or through authorized re-sellers online.

Which colors do you think you’ll be buying?

Gelish Make A Splash Swatches

Make a Splash collection beauty shot

The Summer 2018 Make a Splash collection from Gelish is available now. “The summer collection has an emphasis on fun-in-the-sun with its vibrant and eye-catching shades,” says Danny Haile, CEO and Founder of Gelish. “Even if you can’t live on the beach or at the pool all summer, your nails will make you feel that way!”

Here are the beautiful, summer-centric colors… Get your sunblock and lounge chair ready!

  • Cellophane Coat – front and center in the photo above, an iridescent overlay, is one of my favorite “Trends” colors yet. This topper is great by itself, as seen in the bottom of the swatches below, or on top of almost any Gelish color.
  • Feeling Swim-sical – teal creme, a very smooth polish. Use three coats for deeper color. (This is the only color I did three coats of for my swatches below.)
  • Flamingo Float – coral pink with a shimmer. This is one of two polishes in the collection with a shimmer finish that I am loving. It really differentiates the polish from others of a similar shade.
  • Flip-Flops and Tube Tops – fuschia with a shimmer. This polish also has the shimmery finish that draws the eye. These two might be my favorites in the collection! Which is saying a lot because I love the bright greens, like…
  • Limonade In The Shade – neon green creme, so eye-catching! The below swatch shows two coats. Use a white base or three coats to add even more punch to this bold color!
  • One Piece or Two? – deep purple creme, probably the darkest color in the collection, but seems like it will pair well with the teal, orange, or green for some trendy nail art. The below photo shows just two coats! This color has great coverage.
  • You’ve Got Tan-gerine Lines – orange neon creme, and this color looks like summer in a bottle to me.  Again, you could give it some pop by using a coat of white underneath or using three coats. The below photo shows just two coats.Make a Splash

This collection is even better in person, and I’m really excited to get started using it. I think we can get create some really cool nail art with it, too. All the polishes apply smoothly, as we’ve come to expect from Gelish, and have surprisingly good coverage. It’s really hard to get a formula for the neons that provides good coverage in just two coats. Gelish did an excellent job with these… You can tell their R&D department is on its toes!

Note that I personally purchased this collection, and this is not a sponsored post. I just really like the product!

To see these colors in action, please visit again in a few days – We’ll be posting the live swatches for this collection to the Smoke & Mirrors YouTube channel soon!
